Lying around 9km north of Loulé is the wonderful region of Serra do Caldeirão, a beautiful protected area of undulating hills, trees and untouched nature. The area is renowned for its bird varieties. It’s an excellent place to hike or cycle and a great spot to base yourself to meander through some ancient villages and enjoy the local cuisine.

Sitio do Lago is just south of the Serra which protects us to from the north winds, making our climate warmer in winter and cooler in summer compared with the rest of the Algarve. With 3000 hours of sunshine in the year, there is plenty of time to discover the sights and scents of the countryside – especially in the early Spring when the almond blossom and orchids are in full bloom.

“The location is so incredibly beautiful. We all enjoyed a wonderful holiday. Especially the beautiful nature, environment and tranquility was really bliss! Everywhere you look it is a beautiful view. Enjoy the lake, the swimming pool, reading under the tree, the food was excellent… Thank you for the wonderful warm welcome.”
Jeanette & Ad
“Paradise! A beautiful little lake which is great for swimming, and lots of opportunities to enjoy the sun or shade around. A great house; great view of the beautiful surroundings and the lake; very nice landlords, who are flexible and do their utmost to satisfy their guests.”
Marijke & Hans

“Beautiful nature and wild animals in the area, and very quiet. It really is a paradise.”

“If peace is what you’re looking, for Sitio do Lago is a perfect getaway. Our apartment was contemporary and calm, comfortable and sparkling clean. Surrounding hillsides are criss-crossed with paths where we rambled each day, before an afternoon cool-off in the lake and a spot of canoeing. Later we sat on wooden recliners with books and a drink, enjoying the frogs’ chorus and watching Otter, the extremely loveable dog, frog-hunting as swallows dipped and dived down to the water. Sue produces wonderful food which you can eat indoors, on your own verandah or under a magical pink pepper tree on the swimming pool terrace. Highly recommended. Thanks for making us feel so welcome.”

Fiona & Paul

“It’s in the middle of nature & there are fantastic views at both the front and back, with the sounds of cicadas, frogs, and a waterfall running. The dear helpful owners and their cute cats & dogs make the home feel cozy. We really enjoyed using the table tennis table & canoes, and it was easy to make trips to Loule market, Faro, the beach, and nearby nature reserves. Super place!”

Gerdien

“In one word “top” stay. A lot of privacy, beautiful lake at the rear of the house. There are games, canoes and a ping pong table. There is also the possibility to barbecue there. And a super friendly couple who also warmly received us. Really recommended.”

Rene Verdonk

“Fantastic place! Absolutely recommended for those who love peace and nature. The cottage is equipped with all necessary comfort and kitchen utensils. Adam & Sue are great hosts who do the very best for their guests. For us and our children this was the best holiday so far, and therefore definitely worth repeating. So, definitely do it! 🙂”

Ben Deprez

Esther van Roon
“Easy to reach in a beautiful quiet area. The nature in the immediate vicinity of this cottage is varied. The garden is well maintained and is full of flowers. We enjoyed the swimming lake enormously. Clean and fully equipped. The owners are there for you if necessary.”
Pamela Leurs

“I thought it was a very special place, where you are fully in the middle of nature. When you open the doors of your bedroom, you immediately see the lake, where you can dive in with a few steps. In the evening you hear the frogs and see the beautiful starry sky.”
