5 minutes drive from the Quinta is Salir, where you can find a lovely village with all amenities. There is a well stocked supermarket (Jaffers) a bank, pharmacy and various cafes and restaurants. One of the major attractions in Salir is the ruined castle that was built and fortified in the 12th and 13th centuries. Though the architects are unknown it has an Islamic style in medieval setting. The main church that was built during the 16th century is also a sight worth visiting, and the views from the hill are spectacular. The town offers some very scenic walking paths which are well marked.
In July the 3 day festival Salir do Tempo sees the village transformed into a medieval setting with local arts, crafts, food and drink and live music. In May it is the setting for Festa de Espiga, another 3 day festival with live music, well known bands, a decorated tractor parade and folklore dancing displays.
